National Model United Nations in Erfurt, Germany 2023
(19th November ~ 25th November 2023)
I was selected to participate at NMUN GERMANY conference as a Okayama University representative. In this year’s conference were divided into four, General Assembly (GA) , United Nations Environmental Assembly (UNEA), Human Rights (HR) councils.
Me and one Okayama University student have represented Argentina on UNEA. Before the conference, we were asked to submit our Position Paper on the assigned topic. Two topics were assigned to create choosing options for the delegates. In our Position Paper I have covered the first topic: Promoting Multilateralism to Combat Climate Change, Biodiversity Loss, and Pollution.
The NMUN GERMANY not only included academic sessions, but it also included cultural tours. On the first day of our arrival to Erfurt, we were taken to the cultural tour to Memorandum and Alpha Point.
After getting a brief history introduction to the World War II, we headed to the Concentration Camp that was built by Nazi’s. Professional guide gave us a tour around Concentration Camp. We first visited to the part of the camp where original budlings have remained. After this, we have watched short documentary about the camp where camp survivals have talked about their experiences. We have also visited to the place where the first train trail was built inside to the camp for trading camp population as a slave.
We were taken to the cells where people were kept and ovens where dead body was burnt.
Our next destination on Day 1 tour was Alpha Point where walls divided Germany into two. This tour was guided by the local gid who have experienced the Germany at those time from the Northern part during his childhood. At Alpha Point, we also had a chance to visit a camp where USA army lived.
Day 2 of our tour started with Wartburg Castle that is in mountains. In this tour, professional castle guides introduced each and every corner of the castle. The castle’s beautiful architecture and rich history fascinated me. Day 2 was followed with Jewish tour around Erfurt.
Day 3 have started with the Opening Ceremony where University Professors and Mere of the Germany gave an opening remark. We also had a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner at one of the amazing venues of Cathedral.
UNEA’s official first center took place at Turning Parliament where Director of the Parliament gave an opening remark. During the first day of the NMUN, we have decided on the topic that we are going to discuss upcoming days. The topic of Combating Climate Change was chosen. During the NMUN, me and my partner have given two speeches. Our first speech was about the Argentina’s position on the chosen topic. Our next speech was about the progress in writing Resolution Paper and which countries have Argentina started working. During the last day of the NMUN, Argentina have collaborated closely to the completion of three Resolution Papers. Overall, five Resolution Papers were submitted and passed. Throughout the NMUN, Okayama University delegation have won the best delegation award.
